Aaliyah Dana Haughton

The Princess of R&B, Aaliyah Dana Haughton, was killed in a plane crash in Abaco Islands’  Marsh Harbour in The Bahamas shortly after filming the music video for “Rock the Boat” on this day (August 25) eleven years ago. She was 22.

On August 5, 2012, Canadian rapper Drake released a song online featuring Aaliyah titled “Enough Said.” Later this year an Aaliyah album will be released. Collaborators include longtime friends Missy Elliot and Timbaland, along with newer hip-hop entrants Drake and his producer Noah “40” Shebib.

Today is International Strange Music Day. It was founded by musician and Julliard graduate, Patrick Grant, to encourage everyone to, “Create, play, or listen to some strange music today, just for the heck of it.” So celebrate strange music and enjoy the day.
